ATHLETICS Bendigo Region was to the fore in the finale to Athletics Victoria state open and under-age track and field titles in Melbourne, held on Feb 25 - 26, 2022.
THREE of Athletics Bendigo Region clubs endured a tough run in Saturday’s ninth round of AVSL track and field action. Fifth placing was Eaglehawk’s lowest mark in Premier division this season as Essendon, Box Hill, Glenhuntly and Diamond Valley led the way.
Moama athlete Archie Reid marked a personal best on the track as he clocked 30:08.42 the Zatopek 10,000m classic at Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium on January 26. Andy Buchanan marked his return to the track following injury and a marathon-focused 2021. Meanwhile, Pole Vault star James Woods marked a hat-trick of victories in the Steve Hooker pole vault challenge.
EAGLEHAWK holds all three major teams challenge trophies after the weekend’s running of the 77th Victoria Country Track and Field Championships in Bendigo. The St Anne’s Vineyards-sponsored event drew hundreds of competitors from near and far to the Retreat Road complex in Flora Hill on January 28-30, 2022. Centre Records were broken in sprints, distance races, relays and throws.
ALMOST a fifth of the top 100 in this season’s most valuable athlete (MVA) award in Athletics Victoria Shield League is from Bendigo Region. The outstanding form of Eaglehawk, Bendigo Harriers and South Bendigo in their divisions of AVSL is reflected in the race for the MVA title.
