A big night of action at the Bendigo Regional Athletics Complex in Retreat Road, Flora Hill kicks off at 5.30pm and includes two of the city's most sought-after track classics.
A record which had stood for almost 21 years was broken by Bendigo Harriers athlete Jamie Cook in this week’s 10,000m classic under lights of the Flack Advisory-backed Tuesday Night Series run at Flora Hill. Cook’s time of 30:48.66 beat the mark of 30:57.28 set by Shane Nankervis from Ballarat YCW on January 23, 2000 when the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex hosted the Victoria Country Championships. Other athletes in the supporting races also snagged personal bests on a blustery evening.
BENDIGO Harriers and Eaglehawk earned second place in their respective divisions of Athletics Victoria Shield League run in Bendigo on Saturday afternoon. The Harriers tally of 11,554 points was not far behind Wyndham’s mark of 13,378 in division three. Eaglehawk and Chilwell were again at the top of the pecking order in division two.
A GROUP of 14 from Flack Advisory Bendigo Region featured in the top 99 of the Most Valuable Athlete standings in the weekend’s third round of AV Shield League. Eaglehawk’s brilliant form put the Blues first in the division two points tally. Among the many highs for the Hawks at the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Flora Hill was the record-breaking run by Kathryn Heagney in the 200m. This follows a 400m Masters record Kathryn set last weekend.
Bendigo Harriers put in another great effort in Saturday’s second round of Athletics Victoria Shield League action at Flack Advisory Bendigo Region’s track and field meet. The Harriers line-up scored 13,821 points as Frankston led the way in division three on 16,779. South Bendigo’s tally of 18,530 earned eighth place in Premier division. Eaglehawk put up a great fight against the powerful Chilwell and Sandringham clubs to be third in the Division two standings.
