MORE than 70 athletes will compete at Memorials Night run by Athletics Bendigo region this Saturday night at the Flora Hill track.

Major events on the program are the Sally Conroy Memorial 200m, sponsored by G.M. and G.L. Hilson Builders, and the Richard Kitt Memorial 1500m, backed by Parker Electrical.

A big night of track action at the Bendigo Regional Athletics Complex in Retreat Road starts at 7pm and will include the Little Athletics 200m and 800m, sponsored by InterSport Bicknells.

Qualification for the Conroy final and Little Athletics contests is top three in each heat progress to semi, and the next best four.

Top three and next best two progress to the final. There will be no substitute if an athlete can’t progress.

Racing begins with the Conroy Memorial heats at 7pm and will be followed by Little Athletics 200m heats, Conroy semis, Little Athletics 800m, Richard Kitt final, Little Athletics 200m final, and the Conroy final.

A past winner of the Sally Conroy Memorial, Oliver Muggleton from South Bendigo Athletics Club will race off scratch.

The talented teenager faces a tough ask against experienced athletes such as Eaglehawk’s David Chisholm and Tim Sullivan, Bendigo Harriers’ Geoff Jordan, and Hawks’ duo Stephen Ryan and Kevin Shanahan.

Rising stars to watch include Bendigo Harriers’ Abbey Conquer and Caitlin Evans, Eaglehawk’s Cameron Smith, Jorja Morrison, Julia and Justine Hattingh.

Victorious in last year’s Richard Kitt 1500m final, South Bendigo’s Greg Hilson will pursue victory from a mark of 2.05 minutes.

Backmarker from 2.45 is South Bendigo’s young gun and Victorian under-16 3000m record-holder Logan Tickell.

A winner of the Sally Conroy Memorial 200m when it was run at the Bendigo International Madison carnival, Brett Gilligan from Bendigo Harriers will be one to watch, along with clubmates Anne Buckley and Jill Wilkie.

A talented field includes University’s Melissa Douglas, James Russell, Mason and Ebony Woodward; South Bendigo’s Debby Kirne, Genevieve Nihill and Aaron Norton; and Harriers’ Luke Matthews.
