Some important notices and information that may interest you all, and feel free to share this information around!
1. New Competition Manager Email
As we commence the season, Athletics Bendigo has decided to create a universal point of contact for all things competitions at Athletics Bendigo. All important correspondence will now come directly from the ‘competition@athleticsbendigo.org.au’ email address, but weekly reminders will take a while to transfer into this account.
This account will be publicised and athletes should use this email for any questions, concerns, etc.
2. Changes to AVSL Season (Athletics Victoria Updates)
- Athletics Victoria will hopefully release the AVSL schedules and the manual in the next few weeks. Slight changes coming to the AVSL season include seven consecutive weeks (to avoid staggering them) and an early Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships.
- Athletics Victoria has also allowed regional centers to remove their non-scoring events and make ALL events scoring. This means that events previously designated as non-scoring are now scoring. This includes the extra 100m run in the 200m program and all 3000m/5000m events are now scoring. Please note: Athletes can still only score in the maximum number of events (3) + a relay.
- Athletics Victoria has again designated a reserve round in case of unfavourable weather conditions. More details will be sent out if this is required.
3. Changes to AVSL Season/Timetabling (Athletics Bendigo Changes)
- All programs (including Program 1) will now start at 1pm with flights that previously clashed now having their own timeslot.
- We made this change due to feedback that certain flights were not receiving the same treatment as others (due to a lack of officials). To combat this, we have allocated additional flights to the 1pm time slot.
- Program 1: We have adjusted Program 1. Times have been moved later and the 1500m now comes earlier in the program. The order of events in Program 1 was previously hurdles, walks, 100m, 1500m, it is now hurdles, walks, 1500m, 100m. This change does not include rounds that have a steeple or relay.
- We are trialling this to see if it will increase break time and make the program run smoother.
- Program 2: We have slightly adjusted the times to give athletes a larger break between the 200m and the 800m—35 minutes compared to the 30 minutes they had previously.
- There are 2 twilight meets in the season (at this stage), which will be Round 7 and Round 10 but further information will come once the timetables have been released. Please note: The times have been brought forward compared to previous twilight meets.
- There will be 5 scoring relays this season, including: one 4x100m, one 4x200m, one 4x400m, one 4x100m Mixed, and one 4x400m Mixed.
- All 400m events this year will be mixed events (previously Male & Female). If this is successful this year we will look to mix other events in the coming seasons.
4. New Posters & One Document Entry
- Feedback provided at the conclusion of last season requested posters and one document containing all key information. We are proud to say that we have listended to this feedback and have being working on posters and documents to be shared.
This document here has all details including event type, entry opening times, entry closing times, and the entry link. - View the season document here >
- Posters will be placed at the track and people can request a copy on the days.
