Interview with James Bentley, winner of the Geoff Major Rising Star Award

Teenager James Bentley was crowned the Geoff Major Rising Star in Flack Advisory Bendigo Region's awards for the 2019-20 track and field season. One of many talented athletes in Eaglehawk's famous two blue colours, Bentley's record-breaking feats at 200m and 400m were season highs. The 15-year-old kicked off the season by running a brilliant time of 50.92 seconds in the 400m to set a record for the under-16 age group. He ran a personal best of 23.53 in the 200m, and a time of 2:03.18 in the 800m was the best by any athlete in Bendigo last season. Recap on the 2019-2020 Aged Graded Award Placegetters

Many athletes featured in the top 10 for various disciplines in Flack Advisory Bendigo Region’s age grade awards for the 2019-20 track and field season. Percentage for the Eaglehawk Floral Botique sponsored awards was based on the masters grading for the event according to age. Those to figure prominently included Eaglehawk’s Kathryn Heagney, James Bentley, and Kye Mason, Bendigo Harriers’ Geoff Shaw; South Bendigo’s James Woods; and University’s Tullie Rowe. In the throws category, Bendigo Harriers clubmates Logan Sandland, Jake Gavriliadis and Xavier Pitt led the way. A best mark of 47.77m by Sandland at discus earned 96.16 per cent. Gavriliadis, 39.79m, and Pitt, 35.24m, also starred at discus. A world masters champion decathlete in the 70-plus class, Geoff Shaw dominated in the jumps category. [...]

Little Athletics Bendigo are proud to present their 2019-2020 Season Presentations and Awards. We celebrate and congratulate these young individuals who have excelled in each age group - from Under 16 through to Under 7 years old - for both girls and boys. There is recognition with Special Awards, Attendance Awards, Most Improved (PB) Awards and the Grand Prix Awards in Throws, Jumps and Sprints.
