Talented youngsters Matt Buckell and Logan Tickell were victorious in the latest round of the Tuesday Night Series for athletes run by Flack Advisory Bendigo Region at Flora Hill.
This week’s racing in the Adam Parker Electrical-backed series drew 34 starters across the 5000m or 3000m distances.
In the 5000m it was 17-year-old Buckell who charged to victory in the 12.5 lap showdown in 16 minutes 5.14 seconds. The win was just a couple of weeks after the Bendigo South East SC student raced to second place in the under-20 3000m at the School Sport Victoria state track and field championships at Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium.
Runner-up in the latest 5000m at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road was University’s Stephen Van Rees, 17:35, from clubmate Rik McCaig, 19:08.
Another of the region’s rising stars, Taine Lang from Bendigo Harriers was fourth overall in 19:30.
Fastest female was Harriers’ veteran Anne Buckley in 21:57 to be ninth across the line.
Tuesday’s racing included the 3000m in which South Bendigo’s young gun Logan Tickell charged to victory in 10 minutes 14.86 seconds. The Rowe siblings, Tullie and Max were second and third in 10:51 and 11:18 to complete a great night for University Athletics Club.
